"Seven Bamboo is a karaoke bar and lounge located in the historic Japantown district in San Jose, California. For the casual observer walking down Jackson Street through Japantown, the place would be easy to miss. The only indication of the 7 Bamboo bar is the vintage 60’s era sign adorned with a neon-shaped martini glass and a blue canopy that simply says 7 Bamboo. It is your proverbial “Hole in the wall.” Don’t let that stop you from entering, because this establishment proves the saying...looks are deceiving. Unlike many bars that have used karaoke to attract customers on traditionally slower night, the 7 Bamboo features karaoke every night of the week, except for Monday’s when the bar is closed. Keep in mind this was long before American mainstream culture began to embrace the karaoke phenomenon. Being rooted in Japanese culture, the place was a popular watering hole for Japantown residents to perform their favorite songs in front of an enthusiastic audience. This went on for years, then karaoke invaded America…"
