"The Blue Pheasant is truly unique. Grandmothers enjoy lunch with their friends here on weekdays after playing a round of golf at the attached Blackberry Farm Golf Course. Also, a small attached restaurant serves a passable dinner. But 5 nights a week, the Blue Pheasant transforms itself in to the most lively dance club for thirty-somethings to fifty-somethings in the San Francisco South Bay! From 7pm on, dancing becomes the center of activity at the Blue Pheasant for one simple reason -- dancing is the social lubricant for the main purpose of this dive, which is for middle-aged singles to find each other. While couples are encouraged and welcome, the energy that drives the Blue Pheasant is the middle-aged single scene, and dancing is the physical manifestation. The Blue Pheasant is really not that big, and the dance floor size is modest. Also, there is never a band (there is no room for one!) thus the music is DJ'ed. Fortunately, all 4 of the regular DJs are very good. If you are coming for dancing that needs some space (like my wife and I do), you want to be early -- by 7 or 8pm is best on weekend nights. By 10pm on a Friday or Saturday night, the place is packed with mostly middle-aged singles looking to find each other, and the time for creative dancing is past. So here's our formula: come early for the dancing, then once the floor is full, sit back and watch the middle-aged single scene brew while you finish a glass of wine, then bail out before it gets too raw. Better yet, come on a Sunday or weekday night. On these nights there is a much greater focus on dancing, it isn't as crowded so you can dance longer, there is a higher proportion of couples, and the scene stays more pleasant."
