"Following structural damage in the legendary quake of 1906, distiller Henry
Grauerholz rebuilt what is currently the '33. He called it The Graywood, an
anglicized version of his own name. The refurbished building came
complete with hitching posts for the horse and buggy trade. Grauerholz's
distillery operated at 2450 Mission Street until prohibition began in the
1920's. During this period, the building was converted into a bank and
remained so until 1933, the year Harry Grauerholz began distilling again.
Until this year, Herb Graywood, an descendent of the original owner,
owned and oversee this Victorian beauty.

Jack Keane and Tom Lane took over the 33 in 1956. It was a strong union
bar catering to the Irish, Italian, German and Latin working class. Many
young men grew to manhood at the 33.

After Jack's death in 1990, his widow, Nancy Mifflin Keane, decided to keep
the bar. Under her watchful eye, the pith and character of the 3300 Club
continues today. Some of the players have changed, but the drama
continues....longshoremen, teamsters, painters, city workers, plumbers,
iron workers, teachers and bartenders....dot-commies....all 33 regulars.
Now, many poets, artists, writers frequent the 3300 Club, each contributing
their own unique character to the mix.
