Fighting Irish QB Jimmy Clausen has received a good amount of scorn for having recently participated in an event known as the "Beer Olympics". I know what you are thinking. Clausen is our kind of guy, and we'd all really love to be doing this instead of watching the "real" Olympics. And while this sounds like a great way to spend a weekend, and may even justify you and your friends' binge drinking and/or make it seem like an extreme sport (drunkenness is a prerequisite for good sportsmanship), it is questionable when you are the face of one of America's most popular and widely-watched college football teams. And unfortunately for Clausen, Notre Dame's sports program and administration (maybe even Clausen's folks) are probably not too thrilled about this, seeing as the guy is only 20 years old.

Presently there is no proof of Clausen actually drinking, as the pictures that surfaced and have caused all the resultant chaos feature the young QB along with teammates James Alderidge and Brian Smith in front of a table with alcohol on it. But the speculation of the boys' involvement and consumption of the alcohol stem from the fact that Clausen was cited for transporting alcohol as a minor in August 2007. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is known for dishing out harsh suspensions to players suspected of foul play, and the question now is what is going to happen to Clausen as we near the 2008-09 College football season. Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about, and if I were Clausen I would deny my having consumed alcohol as if someone accused me of sleeping with a fat girl (while sober). We wish him the best and hope to see him on opening weekend. Cheers Jimmy!
