The origin of heavy metal might have been in England, but American bands are mostly responsible for taking it to the mainstream level. The 70s saw the rise of the British metal bands, while the 80s were mainly dominated by the American bands. Let us see some of the best metal bands.

They have an ability of captivating the audience with a slow start which later jumps into a hazard of melodies. They are responsible for influencing bands like Metallica, which makes them one of the best metal bands of all time.

Their debut album got a negative feedback, but now they are cited as the godfathers of heavy metal. They are single-handedly responsible for influencing all the other metal bands and for bringing metal in mainstream music. Heavy metal is their creation and they are the reason why all the other metal band were formed.  Iommi is the undisputed GOD of the standard heavy metal riff and tuned down power chords, even with the loss of the tips of his fingers! All the mainstream metal bands like Maiden, Metallica, and Priest, need two guitarists to even come close to what Iommi does all by himself. Song after song, record after record, their first six albums: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Volume 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage are just as mind-blowing and soul-numbing as 40 years ago.

This American thrash metal band has consecutive great albums. Not only do they have better sounds, but their song writing is remarkable. Their songs like Ashes in your mouth and Holy wars are simply beautiful. Megadeth has geniuses like daveMustaine with his insane spider riffs, Marty with his unique Asian style solosand Nick with his killer drum beats.. Megadeth is a diverse band will multiple genres of metal variations making to everyone’s favourite.

Judas Priest has a fusion of the greatest music factors. With the perfect voice of Halford and the insane drumming skills of Travis, they are bound to make it to the top 5 of the best metal bands of all time. Their music is refined and that is what makes them extremely popular.

This heavy metal band got into mainstream after changing from Glam Metal to Groove Metal. With ‘Vulgar Display of Power” as their most successful album, they have become the pioneers of the new wave of American heavy metal. They were glam and power metal longer than they were a thrash band. The only person could make Pantera sound the way is should sound is Dimebag.

Death has been considered as the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneer in death metal. Their debut album being “Scream Bloody Gore” is widely recognised as the first death metal record in the history of metal, while Chuck Schuldiner is called as the originator of extreme metal. He is a good vocalist and guitarist. Their combined meaningful lyrics and amazing instrumental background is what attracts everybody. Their songs come from heart and have so much emotions which metal music usually lacks.

With seven fantastic albums, Death ended in 2001 when Schuldiner died of Brain Cancer.
