  1. IT

Andres Muschietti’s IT has been picking up lot of buzz since the time it was released. Starring a child-eating clown who goes by the name Pennywise, this movie has gripped its viewers with a horror and disgust so deep that they have been unable to shake it off. Awarded as one of the creepiest movies of 2017, IT has broken all bounds of the horror movies industry.

  1. The Conjuring

The Conjuring is a usual horror movie by James Wan, but it is one of the best to come out in recent times. The soundtrack, the acting and most importantly, the timing of the scenes makes it so good. The scenes are beautifully crafted and visualized which creates that sense of horror.

  1. The Ring

A height of paranoia will be reached when the images you keep at bay come and tug at your subconscious. This movie will steal your sleep with the scenes repeating in your mind at a loop. Being one of the creepiest and scariest movies made, this is absolutely not suitable for those having a faint heart.

  1. The Exorcist

A classic horror movie showing possession, this movie’s scariest part is when an innocent girl is possessed by an evil spirit. Humans can scare humans the best, and this is what the movie proves. With the frightening actions of a possessed human body, the movie has achieved the ranks of the top scariest movies ever.

  1. The Shining

The Shining is one of Stanley Kubrick’s best work and is considered to be one of the best horror movies of all time. What makes the movie so effective is because the movie does not use the usual tropes a horror movie uses to scare its audience. The movie is unsettling and creepy, which is why the movie seems so scary.

  1. Insidious

A classic in horror movies, it’s alternate universe, and tormented souls are what make the movie so scary. The timings, sound effects and visual effects show perfectionism, and contributes heavily to the horror factor of the movie. The use of a child as a protagonist furthers the creepiness of the movie.

  1. The Omen

Going out of the usual format of the paranormal genre, The Omen features the Devil’s own son- the Antichrist. What is really creepy about this movie, apart from the macabre murders and suicides is that a seemingly innocent child is behind all the killings, and is the Devil’s Son-Antichrist.

  1. The Grudge

A very classic form horror movie, The Grudge is basically all about a haunted house with evil souls with unresolved issues. Again, the use of children as the evil spirits, along with the lighting, and soundtracks of the movie is what makes it so drop-dead scary.

  1. Annabelle: Creation

This is the movie which made play dolls so scary for all of us. Turning an innocent plaything into an object of abject fear is what is the creepiest thing about this movie. The use of children actually playing with the evil doll is the scariest factor of the movie.

Don’t be scared just yet. Watch the movies first. Then, proceed to get scared. I am sure the lights of your bedroom will be switched on for the whole night. I know mine will be, but well, maybe you are made out of sterner stuff. Watch these movies, and find out for yourself.
