One of the oldest and best known civilizations, besides Babylon, is certainly ancient Egypt. Extending back as far as 5,000 years into the past, it was also a very advanced civilization that invented a 365 day calendar and math, which was used for complex calculations regarding the construction of pyramids, structures that would be hard to build even with today’s technology. With such incredible technological advancements in mind, some people might ask themselves was it even possible that humans achieved all that so early in modern evolution stage, naturally leading to theories about alien interventions. And since there’s no one alive who lived 5,000 years ago, we can only guess what was really happening in ancient Egypt.

Being such an interesting and mysterious topic for entertainment industry, ancient Egypt inspired many Hollywood movies, from Biblical stories to purely fictional movies like The Mummy which earned millions of dollars in box office, probably being one of the most iconic Egypt-based movies. The movie industry is not the only one who is often finding inspiration in Egyptian culture. Gaming industry is also fond of it, and even the gambling industry with games like the Book of Dead being a great example of Egypt-theme title.

The Mummy (1999)

Brendan Fraser’s best known movie which launched his career is The Mummy from 1999, a remake of a 1932 horror which was directed by Karl Freund. It was an action-packed movie with great acting and great CGI for that time, earning 415.9 million USD in box office. It was so popular that the Universal rebooted the trilogy in 2017 with Tom Cruise as a lead role.  

Gods of Egypt (2016)

If you love Egyptian mythology, then the Gods of Egypt might be a great movie to watch. Story follows a mortal named Bek who is attempting to challenge the God of underworld, Set, who usurped the throne and seized it from the previous king of the Egyptian Empire. Together with Horus, he is trying to defeat Set. 

Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)

Gods and Kings is a biblical film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, featuring Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as an Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II. The movie follows a well-known story about hundred thousand slaves who escaped Egypt and went on a monumental journey. 

Stargate (1994)

Stargate is a SF adventure film and the first release in the very popular and successful Stargate franchise. Movie is based on ancient Egypt theme, where plot centers on the theory of ancient aliens visiting Earth, and an ancient device that enables instant travel around the universe. Movie was followed by the Stargate SG-1 TV show, so if you’re a fan of ancient Egypt-based TV shows, you have 10 seasons to watch

The Scorpion King (2002)

The Mummy franchise is apparently so popular that even its spin-offs enjoyed the box office of over 160 million USD. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, movie shows events happening 5,000 years prior to The Mummy, and how Mathayus became the legendary Scorpion King. It was Dwayne Johnson’s first lead role.
